What is Free Software?

Telegram
Telegram is a secure instant messaging service that offers multi-platform support. It was created by the Russian programmer Pavel Durov. It started broadcasting in August 2013. Users can share text messages, photos, videos, audio recordings, stickers and files up to 2 GB between each other.
FEATURES
Cloud based messaging. In this way, the software comes across in seconds on every platform and the content is matched.
Secret chat facility ("secret chat" in English interface). Telegram does not store communications and media files in confidential messages on its servers. In addition, no system logs (metadata) are kept for these messages. Thus, even Telegram doesn't know to whom and what messages you sent.

Signal is a free and open source, cross-platform encrypted messaging software. Developed by the Signal Foundation and Signal Messenger LLC. Used to send peer-to-peer or group messages over the internet, which can include files, voice messages, images and videos.
Signal uses standard mobile phone numbers as identifiers and uses end-to-end encryption to secure all communications with other Signal users. The application includes mechanisms by which user persons can independently verify the identity and integrity of the data channel.
On Android, users can choose to make Signal the default SMS / MMS app, allowing them to send and receive unencrypted SMS messages in addition to standard end-to-end encrypted Signal messages. Users can then use the same app to communicate with people without Signal. Sending an unencrypted message can also be used among Signal users.
TextSecure allows the user to create a password that encrypts the local message database and the user's encryption keys. This did not encrypt the user's contact database or message timestamps. Signal applications on Android and iOS; It can be locked with the phone's pin, password or biometric authentication. The user can define a "screen lock timeout" interval, providing an additional protection mechanism in case the phone is lost or stolen.
Signal also allows users to set timers for messages. After a certain period of time, messages will be deleted from both the sender's and recipients' devices. The interval can range from five seconds to a week, and the timer starts after reading the copy of the message for each recipient. The developers stressed that this is "a common feature for conversations where all participants want to protect minimalistic data health, not situations where your contact is hostile."
